Before jumping straight back into your car there are 4 things that you’ll need to do to get your car back in tip-top shape for when life turns back to normal!

1. CHECK YOUR TYRE PRESSURE

As your car will have been sat on your driveway for a long time, your tyre pressure will have dropped. Although you can easily tell whether you’ve got a flat tyre, having an under-inflated tyre can be a danger to your passengers and yourself, as there is an increased chance of tyre failure. You can reduce this risk and save money by simply making sure your tyres are inflated correctly by doing a tyre pressure check

2. TYRE TREAD DEPTH

It is also vital to check your tyre tread depth to ensure it is at a minimum of 1.6mm deep. An easy way to find out whether your tread depth is below 1.6mm is to do the 20p coin test. To do the 20p test, place a 20p coin in the groove of your tyre. If you are unable to see the outer band of the coin, the tread is legal. However, if you can’t see the outer band, then this indicates that the tread depth is too shallow and needs replacing.

3. CHECK YOUR WHEELS FOR DAMAGE

Ignoring the damage on your alloy wheels can also have more serious issues than just the aesthetic. If they aren’t regularly checked or cleaned, then erosion and brake dust will build up. Corrosion on your alloy wheels can prevent the tyre from sitting correctly on the wheel causing air to leak and your tyres to deflate.

4. REPAIR ANY DENTS

When it comes to maintaining your car, safety should always be your utmost priority.  What may look like a small dent may have structural damage behind it that isn’t necessarily obvious to the naked eye. This underlying structural damage could risk the safety of yourself and your passengers.

Dents can also cause cracks to form by even the slightest impact that allows water to seep underneath the paint to the metal part of the car. Eventually, the water reacts with the metal and oxidises that will cause the metal rust.
